Wind Mitigation Inspection
Florida weather can be unpredictable, but your home’s protection shouldn not be. A Wind Mitigation Inspection identifies the features that help your property withstand high winds, such as roof shape, attachments, and impact-resistant openings.
These inspections are not only important when you buy a home, but also when switching insurance providers or after completing home upgrades. Additionally, the state verification form is valid for up to five years, provided no material changes have been made to the structure, making this a smart, long-term investment in both safety and savings.
This inspection not only helps safeguard your home, but it can also save you money. Many insurance providers offer premium discounts for homes with verified wind-resistant construction features.

Insurance savings vary widely based on the home and the insurance provider. The best way to determine potential discounts and estimated savings is to speak directly with your insurance agent. A home inspector can document the features and systems in your home, but only your insurance company can determine how those features may affect your insurance costs.

A wind mitigation inspection typically takes about 30 minutes to one hour. During the inspection, the inspector will walk the exterior of the property, access the attic, and evaluate the home’s openings to document wind-resistant features.
-
The state verification form is generally valid for up to five years, provided no significant changes have been made to the structure. If upgrades or improvements are made to the home during that time, it may be beneficial to consult with your insurance agent to determine whether the home qualifies for additional insurance credits.
-
In rare cases, homeowners may lose insurance discounts if a previous wind mitigation form was completed incorrectly. This can occur when certain home features were reported that were not actually present. While this situation is uncommon, most homeowners benefit from accurate inspections and continue to receive insurance savings on their premiums year after year.
